The Black Angels tonight @ La Zona Rosa

5/08/2009

BFF BikesRockFlyer-A4

Formed in May 2004 in Austin, TX, The Black Angels psychedelically induced rock n’ roll evokes the spirit of the 1960’s while awakening the heavy droning rhythms inspired by the Velvet Underground. Picture a red moon lit night, deep in the heart of Texas with the ghosts of Nico and Timothy Leary being called back from the dead to guide you on a journey through Heaven & Hell and back again.

The Black Angels are marchiing forward into battle for your souls.

Quick tribute to mid-90s acidbreaks

17/07/2009

sanmarcos

In the mid 90s I discovered the usage of Roland’s TB-303, specifically for acid breaks. Back then it was all I could think of, The dirtier the bassline the better. If the track didnt have a 303 in it, I didnt want to hear it… NEXT!!!

I lived in San Macros off of Comanche and Pat Garrison (photo above) at the time in a three bedroom apartment with two other DJs, plenty of dirty dishes and lots of party stains on the floor. Here are just a few tracks I was spinning at the time:

Central Fire - This Is a Shout Going Out

DJ Icey - Smoke

Psychedelic Research Lab - Climb 1

Electroliners - Loose Caboose (Bassbin Twins Remix)

Grooveyard - What Me Now (Fila Brazillia Remix)

Love and a 45…and some beer!

Hope yall are off to a great start this week. I gotta couple questions… If Monday sucks, what do you do for therapy? Feed the ducks Cheetos on town lake? Or, sit on your rockingchair on the front porch with your shotgun? Perhaps spend some quality time with your pharmaceuticals? Wait, those are all things I do. Well, here’s what we should ALL do TOGETHER…TONIGHT! Come down to Rio Rita say 9pm… have a few beers and listen to some music? Sounds good right!?!?!?

I’m taking a few of my fav 45s, mixin ‘em up, kickin’ back…. you know the drill.

Rio Rita is located 5 blocks east from I35 on East 6th street… look out for the sign…

Wonders of Dust live @ Headhunters 04/15/09

10/04/2009

The awaited debut performance of Jeff Miller’s band Wonders of Dust will be Wednesday April 15, 2009 at Headhunters here in Austin, Texas. Headhunters is located downtown on the corner 8th and Red River. On a side note, I’ve had nothing but fun at this venue. In fact I recall daring Sheri House(and old friend of mine) to walk up to Quentin Tarantino and asking him if she could have a bite of his tasty burger. He was pretty nice about.

Okay so Wonders Of Dust are loud, they scream a lot… THEY ARE METAL!!! So join us at Headhunters this coming Wednesday and support Jeff and the rest of the band…
