Quick tribute to mid-90s acidbreaks

17/07/2009

sanmarcos

In the mid 90s I discovered the usage of Roland’s TB-303, specifically for acid breaks. Back then it was all I could think of, The dirtier the bassline the better. If the track didnt have a 303 in it, I didnt want to hear it… NEXT!!!

I lived in San Macros off of Comanche and Pat Garrison (photo above) at the time in a three bedroom apartment with two other DJs, plenty of dirty dishes and lots of party stains on the floor. Here are just a few tracks I was spinning at the time:

Central Fire - This Is a Shout Going Out

DJ Icey - Smoke

Psychedelic Research Lab - Climb 1

Electroliners - Loose Caboose (Bassbin Twins Remix)

Grooveyard - What Me Now (Fila Brazillia Remix)

Sing!

1/03/2009

Someone told me once that I had a good voice. Thank you! All I can really add is that if you have something to truly sing about, if you got a fire burning in your chest and you find the only way you can put out that fire is through song, you can bet your ass its gonna sound amazing….

I’m NOT talking about me… I’m taking about the greats (Just of the top of my head)… Nina Simone, Jeff Buckley, Mississippi John Hurt, Woody Guthrie, Huddie Ledbetter, John Lennon, Paul McCartney Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Van Morrison, The Carter Family, David Bowie, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, Nick Drake, Al Green, Donovan and last but not least Leonard Cohen.

Project Code Name: Green Pumpkin

4/09/2008

I was commissioned to piece together a vintage stereo component system consisting of all vintage hi-fi audio equipment form the 60s & 70s. The only components to be used are a turntable, solid state receiver/amp or preamp and floor standing speakers. The budget is $300 which can cover the gear, shipping costs, installation, repairs and accessories. And, of course, it all has to pass the audio test. I should have it all completed by Dec 1, 2008…wish me luck.
